About This Special Issue
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and there is global concern regarding the alarming increasing trend of cardiovascular risk factors especially among developing countries. Important metabolic/physiological risk factors contributing to the development of CVD include overweight and obesity, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Low physical activity, use of tobacco and alcohol are also modifiable behavioral risk factors of CVD; among these lifestyle factors, unhealthy diet, including low fruit and vegetable consumption, regular consumption of high-energy foods, processed foods, higher intake of salt, fats, saturated and trans fats, as well as dietary cholesterol play critical roles. Consumption of imbalanced diets with high energy and low nutrient density is considered as main risk factors for development of CVD.
The proposed special issue "Nutrition and cardiometabolic risk factors" could be contained original research as well as review articles.
